Set top video conferencing solutions

Set top video conferencing solutions are usually deployed in small to medium sized meeting or class rooms. Polycom and Sony set top video conferencing systems can host video meetings with up to 10 people, however the user must take into account the amount of bandwidth they have available for larger meetings.

Sony and Polycom set top video conferencing systems will do more than just facilitate video meetings, they will also allow users to share data in real time during the video meeting. Applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CAD design packages, in fact any PC based application can be shared and changed in real time during a video conference call.

Peripherals

With Sony and Polycom set top systems there are two ways to plug in your peripherals and use your desktop applications. You can usually plug secondary cameras and monitors directly into the set top codec or you can use a “image share” device which plugs directly into the codec and you in turn plug your devices such as laptop, extra camera, document camera etc into the image share device.

There may be instances where a user may want to share data and annotate during a video conference. In these instances peripherals such as interactive whiteboards will enhance the message by allowing the user to annotate over an application, drawing or spreadsheet during a video call.

In manufacturing applications users may have a prototype they want to share with experts across the globe. This can be achieved with the use of a document camera to send the 3D images of chosen objects to people at the far end during the video conference call.
